Retrofit, Revamp, Rehabilitation

Engineered Upgrades for Existing Equipment

In many cases, the most effective way to replicate or improve original equipment is through re-engineering. For mature assets delivered decades ago, original drawings are often unavailable and OEM support can be limited or impractical. Blackstone integrates field and shop metrology with in-house machine design to capture real-world geometry and develop engineered retrofit and revamp solutions. Existing equipment is evaluated against current operating conditions, then upgraded to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability without full replacement. This approach reduces downtime, avoids extended lead times, and provides access to locally manufactured components at OEM or improved quality, while giving operators greater independence from OEM spare part constraints.

Upgrades based on measured data and operating conditions, not assumptions.

What is retrofitting?

Integration of modern components, technologies, or design improvements into existing rotating equipment.

What is Revamping?

Re-engineering or modification of existing equipment to improve performance, capacity, or reliability.

Why Retrofit or Revamp?
  • Equipment operating beyond original design life
  • Equipment operating beyond original design life Obsolete or unavailable OEM components
  • Increased production demand or changing process conditions
  • Recurring failures, high vibration, or design limitations
  • Updated regulatory, safety, or environmental requirements
Revamp vs Replace
  • Lower capital cost compared to full replacement
  • Improved performance and extended service life
  • Reduced material waste through reuse of existing equipment
  • Shorter lead times compared to OEM supply
  • Designed to integrate with existing layouts, piping, and systems
  • Solutions based on actual operating conditions
  • Ability to address known design deficiencies
