Blackstone Industrial completed a major overhaul of a Nuovo Pignone CO₂ Compressor Train at a urea synthesis facility.
The project included full internal inspections, bearing replacements, valve work, and extensive balance of plant (BOP) maintenance across multiple equipment types, including:
Compressor 2MCL 806: Major internal inspection
Compressor 2BCL 306/A: Major overhaul and bundle swap
Steam Turbine SAC 1-8:
Replaced bearings and oil deflectors
Replaced main stop valve
Performed internal inspection
Removed and replaced HP/MP control valve rack actuators
Conducted internal inspection of HP/MP control valves
Gearbox (Flender TX32/1C): Minor inspection
Balance of Plant: Scheduled maintenance and oil changes
Aging building cranes caused intermittent breakdowns, leading to some schedule delays.
Three contractors operated within the same compressor deck area, creating congestion and limiting crane availability.
Only one lifting bay was accessible for all trades, requiring precise coordination and scheduling to maintain workflow.
Widespread balance of plant work across the facility introduced logistical challenges with tooling and engineering support.
A single site engineer was responsible for much of the technical oversight, requiring strong communication and collaboration between teams.
Despite these challenges, the Blackstone and site coordination teams worked seamlessly to maintain progress, technical accuracy, and schedule adherence.
The facility benefited from Blackstone’s expertise, detailed pre-turnaround planning, and strong field leadership throughout execution.
Comprehensive Support: Early engagement with parts validation, tooling review, and documentation preparation provided a strong foundation for execution.
Seamless Collaboration: Close coordination between Blackstone field personnel and site engineering ensured efficient problem-solving.
Technical Excellence: Blackstone’s familiarity with Nuovo Pignone equipment, drawings, and manuals enabled efficient part sourcing and confident execution.
Reliable Results: The project was completed safely, on schedule, and with high-quality workmanship, minimizing downtime and optimizing equipment reliability.
“The customer saw the quality of work Blackstone brings to the table, with strong field performance, excellent documentation, and responsive leadership.”
